PFA Resin

“The king of plastics” PTFE possesses excellent properties such as resistance to temperatures, chemical corrosion, water proof, non-stick , low coefficient of friction, good self-lubrication, and excellent dielectric properties. However, it is difficult to process and has poor resistance to stress cracking and creep. PFA resin, formed by introducing perfluoroalkyl vinyl ethers into the side chain structure of TFE, can be well applied in the market. It also named as “melting PTFE”.

Melt processing technology

The main chain structure of PFA resin is similar to that of PTFE resin, while the introduction of perfluoroalkyl vinyl ethers in the side chain structure increases the flexibility of the polymer chain. While maintaining the excellent physical and chemical properties of PTFE, PFA also improves the resin's cold flowability and reduces its melt viscosity, allowing for melt processing techniques such as compression molding, extrusion molding, and injection molding.

Characteristics

PFA resin has a melting point of 300-310℃ and a molding temperature of 350-410℃, and its processing characteristics are basically the same as FEP resin. However, because its melt viscosity is higher than that of FEP resin, the processing temperature is higher and the processing rate is lower.

Applications

Compared to other fluoropolymers, PFA resin has a higher continuous operation temperature and superior stress cracking resistance. It is commonly used as a liner for reactors, pipes, wire cable insulation and aerospace components, and is widely applied in construction, chemical, machinery, electrical, and aerospace industries.

Uflon’s PFA resin grades are as below table.

Grade MFR(g/10min) Application
UF-910 1.5-3.0 Used to produce lining of pump, valve and bearing etc.
UF-920 10-18 For wire cables, pipes, parts etc
UF-930 20-30 Suitable for wire and cable based on high-speed extrusion process.
