PTFE turning parts refer to various industrial components manufactured from PTFE material through turning processes. Turning is a common method in CNC machining, through computer-controlled tools to obtain the required precision parts.
For example, in the aerospace field, PTFE gaskets are widely used as sealing components in valve connections to prevent leakage and enhance sealing performance. However, due to the varying sizes, small quantities, and strict dimensional accuracy of these gaskets, they are not suitable for molding process, and it is difficult to meet production deadlines in terms of time. But, turning technology can effectively solve this problem, offering high processing speed, short cycle time, energy savings and cost-reducing.
PTFE material has relatively low rigidity, hardness, and strength. Its tensile strength is 21-28 MPa, bending strength is 11-14 MPa, and elongation is 250%-300%. It will deform under long-term stress and is prone to creep under overload.
Turning PTFE is different with machining metal materials. Therefore, during turning process, we should select the appropriate cutting tools and parameters based on the workpiece properties, machining conditions and quality requirements. Besides, sufficient machining allowance should be considered, and adequate cooling (generally compressed air cooling) should be provided.
