PVDF extrusion molding can process various products such as sheet, rod, tube and film. Usually, the barrel temperature is 205–260℃, and the die temperature is 220–275℃. Single-screw extruders are commonly used, but twin-screw extruders can be selected for processing PVDF powder, PVDF-based composite materials, PVDF masterbatches, or PVDF resin with fillers.
PVDF melt has a low thermal conductivity, about half that of PTFE, PFA, and FEP. Its viscosity is high and decreases with increasing shear rate. Extruder barrel diameters are mostly 30–65 mm, screw length-to-diameter ratios are 24, 28, and 32, and compression ratios are 2-3.
Gradual screws should be selected, the metering section should be relatively long. The screw groove depth is related to the diameter of the extruder. The die head should be machined into a streamlined shape to ensure no dead flow corners, meanwhile, high polishing and nitriding treatment are also required.
Sheets, tubes, rods, monofilaments, wire and cable sheaths, films, custom-shaped products, etc.
In addition, PVDF resin can be blended and modified with other resins. For example, the composite material obtained by blending PVDF with ABS resin is widely used in construction, automotive decoration and home appliance housings.
