Extrusion molding is a process for producing products of continuous length, such as tubes, rods, films, sheets, monofilaments, wire and cable insulation, and sheaths. Its key characteristics are continuous production, high efficiency, and suitable for large-scale production. It is a very popular process way for FEP resin.

Fluoroplastics FEP has high-performance characteristics, which significantly increase the difficulty of extrusion molding. Fluoroplastics have high plasticizing temperatures and much higher melt viscosity than ordinary plastics, therefore, pressure die extrusion is not available during process, sleeve die extrusion instead. This places higher demands on the quality of die, screw, and die head.
In addition, the precise control of FEP extrusion temperature is crucial. Overheating will cause local decomposition of FEP, resulting in bubbles on the surface of the insulation or sheath. Conversely, excessively low temperatures will cause the insulation stress crack.
As a crystalline polymer, FEP resin is not suitable to adopt rapid cooling way, a staged cooling process instead. The water tank temperature should be gradually reduced from high to low, to prevent internal stress and ensure product quality.
Rely on unique performance advantages, FEP extrusion molding products play an important role in fields such as electronics, chemicals, medical, 3D printing and aerospace.
